Taj Mahal – MasterPiece situated in Agra

Everybody is familiar with the name of the Taj Mahal. Taj Mahal is situated in Agra, Uttar Pradesh,
India. Apart from being made with beautiful white marbles, The Taj Mahal is considered as the seventh
wonder of the world. Taj Mahal is the only monument of India which has made it to the list of
wonders of the world.

Being situated on the bank of river Yamuna, The Taj Mahal is also considered an outstanding
example of Mughal dynasty. Taj Mahal was built in the year 1632 by the Mughal emperor Shah
Jahan in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. Taj Mahal is also regarded as the
symbol of love.
Almost 20,000 workers were involved in the making of Taj. The construction of the Taj Mahal was
led by Ustad Ahmad Lahauri. At that time, the estimated cost of constructing The Taj Mahal was
around 32 million but if we compare that cost with today's economy it will be around 53 billion.
Tomb of Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan is situated inside the Taj Mahal which is the central focus
of the visitors.
Taj Mahal is the building made up of white Marbles. The marbles which were used in making is
extracted in a town name Makrana that is why these white marbles are also known as Makrana
Apart from Taj Mahal, these marbles are also used in the making of Victoria Memorial situated in
Kolkata. Almost 7 million people visit every day Agra to see a glimpse of the beautiful Taj Mahal.
Lakhs of foreign people also visit Taj every day. Taj Mahal is open every day but not on Friday.
On Friday the monument is opened for people to offer Namaz.
Apart from being one of the seven wonders of the world, the Taj Mahal has also been involved in
controversies many times. But the Indian government as well as Uttar Pradesh government always
intervened that Taj is India's pride.
